But it is perfectly alright to be irritated if they don’t place papers to be graded neatly in the tray, crate whatever you use.
It’s one of my first day set of “pet peeves” I go over with every class.

I tell myself the same thing about my fifth grade boys who MUST jump up and touch the top of every doorway they pass through.
You could always get some kind of trash can with a lid. Or embrace it fully and put one of those miniature toy hoops over it, and then when you are in reach, SWAT their paper out of the air and yell, "YEAH! This is MY HOUSE!" 🙂
